We’re marking 125 Years of brick manufacturing

20/05/2025 • Category

AAB has been a trusted name in UK brick supply for over 25 years. However, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Dutch manufacturer Rijswaard Baksteen, we’re able to bring an additional 100 years of technical expertise and manufacturing excellence to the UK market. This year, we’re all coming together to celebrate 125 years in operation. And what a journey it’s been.

Founded in 1900 in the Netherlands, Rijswaard Baksteen has over 125 years of experience in brickmaking. Originally one of many brickworks in the region, it has grown into a leading manufacturer by focusing on quality materials and innovation. Close to the factory, we source premium clay from the floodplains of Dutch rivers and the Koblenz region. This clay is of premium quality, which makes us renowned for manufacturing bricks of the highest quality.

Here in the UK, we operate nationwide, offering a wide range of high-quality facing bricks as a cutting service with a range of special cut bricks, pre-fabricated arches and a range of habitat boxes. Whether you need special-shaped bricks or just want to simplify your logistics, we aim to support our customers at every stage of the supply chain. We can even cut third-party bricks if it makes your project run a little more smoothly. We’re all about flexibility, efficiency, and helping you to reduce waste.

Because we operate a direct-from-factory model, we’re able to manage the entire supply chain, from production in the Netherlands or our European partners to delivery on UK sites. AAB ensures a transparent, cost-effective process. This direct-to-site approach is much more transparent and cost-effective than the UK has traditionally been used to, and it gives customers greater control over their brick procurement.

We’re proud to work with a broad client base. This ranges from regional housebuilders, national contractors, self-builders, and developers. Our flexible model and the technical expertise of our team mean that we are trusted partners for projects of all sizes, from commercial complexes to bespoke residential homes. The scope of our work and the quality of our products can be seen in our broadly documented projects.

Core to group values is sustainability. The Rijswaard Baksteen factory, for example, uses solar panels to generate its own energy and we have invested in water purification systems that allow rinsing water to be cleaned and reused. Covered storage has been another innovation at the factory. This has been key to maintaining the quality of both our bricks and packaging. That means less packaging waste and bricks that are stored in a clean, dry space so that you can get building quickly when they arrive. And transport is another area where we’ve made improvements to traditional processes. We transport by canal, which means higher volumes and fewer emissions. But we also have a private quay built on stilts for minimum disruption to the local environment. These steps are part of a long-term vision to keep improving every aspect of the manufacturing process.

To mark 125 years of Rijswaard Baksteen, our annual meeting will be in Barcelona at the end of this month. It’s a rare opportunity for all to meet face-to-face and share our updates and innovations, as well as celebrate what is a significant milestone with the rest of the group. We’re looking forward to updating you on the event.
